Leistungsumfang

Beschreibung laut Bekanntmachung

The Syrian crisis continues to be one of the world"s most complex humanitarian and protection emergencies and displacement crises. As a result of the crisis, Jordan hosts over a million of Syrians, with around 650.000 officially registered as refugees with UNHCR. Around 20% of these registered refugees live in camps, including the Azraq refugee camp. A large-scale return in the short term is unlikely as the situation in Syria does not yet allow them to return in safety and dignity. International donors, including the EU and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), have set up measures to support Jordan in its efforts to cope with the situation including support to the development of a wastewater treatment solution At present, the Azraq refugee camp does not have a functioning wastewater treatment plant and the camp"s untreated wastewater is transported …

International donors, including the EU and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), have set up measures to support Jordan in its efforts to cope with the situation including support to the development of a wastewater treatment solution At present, the Azraq refugee camp does not have a functioning wastewater treatment plant and the camp"s untreated wastewater is transported by tanker trucks over a 76 km distance to the Ain Ghazzal wastewater plant at high financial and ecological cost. GIZ is implementing two projects to address the situation. One project implements the construction of a wastewater treatment facility with a capacity of 950 m3/d serving 45,000 PE, the other project implements the construction works for a re-use facility. Treated effluent from the wastewater treatment facility will feed the adjacent re-use facility. The projects have different funding sources resulting in different contract modalities and time frames. The treatment concept for the treatment facility includes preliminary, primary, secondary, and tertiary wastewater treatment stages, as well as sludge treatment. The re-use concept includes a storage pond, irrigation pumping station, irrigation system, administration building and storage area, green house for the nursery, and fencing. The re-use area is approximately 200,000 square meters. The construction sites are located within the boundaries of the Azraq refugee camp. The Azraq camp is jointly managed by the Syrian Refugees Affairs Directorate (SRAD) and the United Refugees Agency (UNHCR). The United Nations Children"s Fund (UNICEF) has the mandate for water and sanitation in the camp. The Water Authority of Jordan is responsible for the operational management of the water sector.
