81253117-SME Development and Professional Training Related to the Mining Sector

The economy of the DR Congo is dominated by the production of mineral resources. Within the national economy, the mining sector is rather isolated. Better linkages with the local economy could induce growth for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). Local MSMEs suffer from a lack of capacity to successfully bid for contracts and deliver required services. This problem is compounded by the lack of human capacities. While the state and private institutes train vocational school students, their content, methods and equipment of training fail to meet the demand. To address these challenges, GIZ is implementing the project ‘Integrated Economic Development in the Mining Sector’. The project's activities include support to MSME Development as well as vocational training and qualification. GIZ will hire a firm to deliver a comprehensive package of training and coaching with the aim to enable local subcontractors to win tenders and to adapt the skills of local work force.
