Commissioned by BMZ, the GIZ implemented project ‘BioInnovation Africa’ supports the dev. of European-African coop. for biodiversity-based innovations and products with fair and equitable benefit-sharing for biodiversity conservation (BS4BC) in 4 African partner countries: CM, MG, NA and ZA. The potential offered by Africa's biodiversity has hardly been exploited for int. value chains that include BS4BC. Value chains for the production of high-quality food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical products offer the potential to enable investment in BS4BC. International partnerships between ‘providers’ and ‘users’ of these resources can help unlock the potential. The project's advisory services aim at public and private sector partners in the partner countries as well as users of biodiversity-based ingredients in Europe. The project is implemented via 4 outputs: A) Requirements for access and benefit-sharing; B) BS4BC; C) Biodiversity-based value chains; and D) German DC for new partnerships.
