Government of India is aiming for an exponential increase in the installation of renewable energy systems in the country including 100 GW capacity of grid connected solar power by 2022 out of which 40 GW shall is targeted on rooftop. In March 2018, the cumulative installed capacity of rooftop photovoltaic (RTPV) systems was around 1063 MW. The system costs for PV have dropped sharply in recent year, which means that they are al-ready competitive in market segments where electricity tariffs are high, e.g. in trade and industry, substantiated by the fact that the subsidies have been removed in this sector. There is considera-ble public awareness, a strong political will and a concerted effort on the part of the administra-tion. The technical standards and norms have been set, and the regulatory framework for con-necting and operating rooftop PV systems has been fully developed (model regulations).
