automatic real-time bioaerosol monitor

The Institute for Environmental Medicine is monitoring aeroallergen levels (pollen and fungal spores) continuously in the outdoor air in Augsburg. For this purpose, a traditional monitoring station has been running in the hospital area since 2016. The current measurement method combine both, manual and automatic systems. However, the automation is still in progress, needs to be improved and compared with other methods. Moreover, IEM plans to procure an exposure chamber in the future which will require a reliable and mobile automatic real time pollen and spore monitor. The acquisition of a device allowing to measure qualitatively and quantitatively, in real time and in an automated way, the presence of allergenic bioaerosols in both, outdoor and indoor air, would allow to provide this information to allergic persons and health professionals, to improve the prediction models of the allergy risk and make aeroallergen measurements in the chamber during the experiments possible.
